Consultations

Initial Consultation

The initial Ayurvedic consultation takes around 60 minutes. It involves a deep dive into your current issues, general health, medical history, diet, lifestyle factors, stress, emotions, sleep, bowel habits, mindsets, exercise, medication and supplements, and identifying your health goals. Your appointment will consider all details you share in the booking form.

This is a fundamental part of the process in Ayurveda Medicine, which allows the practitioner to identify the specific make-up of your mind-body constitution, and the proportions of each dosha (Vata, Kapha and Pitta), also called Prakruti. We will also diagnose the root causes of your current health imbalances using traditional techniques such as pulse, tongue, and nail diagnosis and an inquiry into your current symptoms.

This session will help you to understand more about your gut health and how you can reduce toxic build-up (ama), strengthen your digestive fire (Agni), promote calmness in mind and boost your energy.

Your tailored treatment will be made of 4 key elements:

1. Diet

A tailored diet plan will be put together with a range of changes to implement to restore your well-being. This will be sent to you after the consultation, including a comprehensive food spreadsheet containing all types of food you should prioritise, avoid or eat in moderation. It will also be aligned with your individual nutritional needs.

2. Lifestyle

The Lifestyle guidance will contain action points along with some advice for your imbalances that you can start to integrate straight away. It will consider your current needs as well as environmental, social and lifestyle demands. The advice is designed to support you for at least 8-12 weeks. Still, the main outcomes are the awareness you will develop by listening to your body more effectively and the healthy habits you will learn and establish to sustain your holistic health for a lifetime.

3. Herbal Food Supplements and Formulated Herbal Medicines

The ancient practice of administering herbal medicines is key to treatment and is considered a precise science requiring deep knowledge of plants and their effect on human physiology, biochemistry and psychology. The action and effect of each herb is determined by its rasa (taste), guna (attribute), virya (active potency), vipak (post-digestive effect) and prabhava (special quality). The most commonly used remedies include swarasa (juices), kalka (pastes), kwatha (decotions), hima (cold infusions), phanta (hot infusions) and more complex preparations such as choornas, tablets, arishtas, ghritas and medicinal oils.

4. Ayurvedic  Therapies and Panchakarma

Depending on your condition and needs, you may be advised to have a specific treatment performed by an experienced Ayurvedic therapist with expertise in Panchakarma treatments and special procedures. They work under the physician's supervision, who advises on specific medicated oils to use and specific procedures.

Panchakarma therapy is a deep purification method that removes toxins or ama from the body. The therapy includes Abhyanga oil massage, shirodhara (medicated oil poured onto the third eye chakra to pacify the central nervous system), pinda sweda (steamed, herbal poultices used to stimulate points in the body), steam bath and basti (warm medicated herbal oil enema) and any of a number of other appropriate treatments in addition.

Follow-up Consultation

A follow-up consultation will take place 2-3 weeks after your initial consultation to guide you through the next steps, monitor your progress and support you with counselling. This will last approximately 30 minutes. After your Initial consultation and first follow-up, if you need further consultations, the following additional visits are generally at four or six-week intervals to support you in implementing the changes in your diet and lifestyle, and establishing sustainable healthy habits.
